Today the text is again full of the word, righteousness—and comparisons between righteousness and wickedness.
Two verses caught my eye:
· Verse 3: “The root of righteousness will never be moved
· Verse12: “The root of righteousness bears fruit”
As Proverbs will over and over seek to draw us, compel us, to a life of righteousness, it would seem getting to the root of the matter important.
I know that I have made this point before, but it is critical that if we seek to be people of God, that we go deep. Deep with Jesus.
Isaiah 11 speaks of Jesus as “the root of Jesse” and “a shoot from the stump of Jesse, a branch that will produce much fruit.”
We are only about one-third of the way into Proverbs, and God through His Word has already made it abundantly clear that His desire is for us to be in a right-relationship with Him.
But our sin has made it impossible for us to be in a right-relationship with God—impossible to be righteous on our own.
In His amazing grace and mercy, God has decided to make righteousness possible, but there's only one root of righteousness, and everyone who wants to be righteous in God's sight must come from (be grafted into) this root.
Romans 11:17-24 makes is clear that this root is Jesus, we are grafted in, and further that the fruit that Jesus produces is righteousness.
Without our Root, we could not be saved.
The key is to stay connected to the root—to Jesus.
How are you doing staying connected to the root?
